I saw that video. How about the girl that was dragged into the police car, screaming?
Also, Wall Street Journal, Friday 11 April Had an article about men’s haircuts, ties, and tatoos now being scrutinized in Tehran. The head of the barbers union has been put on notice to get all the barbers in Tehran to do what the conservative Imam dictates. Plus, no ties allowed (also outlawed by the Taliban at one point before 9-11, I might add), and cover up the tatoos. Check it out. -
It’s harassment on a personal level that will be the downfall of the hardliners in Iran.

During the last days of the Shar, I remember that many men in Iran were encouraged to get tatoos of Khomeini. I wonder how they like them now.

Sorry, Wall Street Journal article was this past Friday 11 May 2007. I’m continually living in the wrong date.

What makes it even more laughable is the bloke in the classic Western 21st Century dress walking past the women being scolded. He’s in a tight figure-hugging white T-shirt and blue jeans.
We should bomb them with fashion magazines. -
This is an interesting interpretation of the concerns extended to Iranian women. Apparently, it is nothing but “the sexual objectification of Iranian women”. Maybe it’s accusation of this type (“orientalism”!)that accounts for “the relative silence in feminist circles on Islam’s treatment of women” (as MH notes in a later post):
