From Baghdad

to Hasham, he deliberately parked a dark car opposite the bride’s house and pulled out his mobile phone.

Hasham noticed that he was sufficiently well dressed, in a dark suit, to blend in with the occasion. “I thought he was a guest,” he said. The man walked to the corner and disappeared. Moments later the dark car erupted.

Like so many massacres in Baghdad, this one was beyond the comprehension of those who saw it. No one could guess why any bomber should have targeted the wedding of Fakr, 22, and Ahmed Abbas, 26.

Update: Saddam’s been sentenced to death by hanging:

Shortly after the verdict was announced celebratory gunfire could be heard across Baghdad.

“No one could guess why any bomber should have targeted the wedding of Fakr, 22, and Ahmed Abbas, 26.” Really? It’s so hard for outsiders to know what to make of an assertion like that.
