s against Tony Blair’s backing for George Bush over Iraq and Blair’s failure to rein him in over his support for Israel. Their letter speaks volumes for the rancid prejudice which animates so much of the British foreign policy mandarinate, and has now unfortunately influenced the attitude of so much of the population.

I get the feeling she wasn’t very impressed.

    These former ambassadors are probably employed, entertained and stroked by assorted Middle Eastern Institutes of This and That. A worthwhile exercise would be to itemise the careers and extra-mural incomes of these moral popinjays. I suspect the naked statistics would speak volumes.

    Anyway, if these are the people who have been running our Middle East policies for the past decades . . . Well, I’m only going to say, if I was them I think I’d be keeping rather quite about that fact.
