Theodore Dalrymple has a short article in the Times on the redefinition of unemployment as sickness:

Almost the whole of human behaviour has been medicalised and turned into a syndrome or disease. Even persistently to lie about symptoms that one has never had is now considered a medical condition requiring treatment. If in the 1960s we were all guilty, by the end of the 1990s we were all ill.
